Oral Surgery
Oral Surgery can sound daunting, but it’s often a necessary step toward improving your overall dental health. At Levitas, we offer Oral Surgery in a calm, supportive environment. We always have your comfort and long-term wellbeing in mind.

What is Oral Surgery?
Oral Surgery refers to dental procedures that involve the surgical removal or treatment of teeth and surrounding tissues. In many cases, this involves the extraction of a tooth that can no longer be saved. This could be due to decay, infection, damage, or the tooth’s position in the mouth.
While it may not be a treatment anyone looks forward to, Oral Surgery is often an important part of restoring balance, comfort, and long-term function to your mouth.

When Might You Need Oral Surgery?
Tooth removal may be necessary as part of a wider plan for your oral rehabilitation. This could be due to:
Extensive breakdown of the tooth
Advanced decay or infection
Inappropriate positioning (such as crowding or impaction)
A tooth that is no longer viable to save
If a tooth is causing pain, infection, or is affecting your bite or other teeth, removing it may be the most appropriate step forward. Once removed, your dentist can guide you through the available options to restore the space, if desired.

What to Expect
If Oral Surgery is recommended, your comfort will always be our priority. The area will be numbed prior to treatment, allowing the tooth to be removed without pain. Your dentist will talk you through what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, and will ensure you feel at ease every step of the way.
After the tooth is removed, your dentist will work with you to explore the best options for restoring the space.
Oral Surgery FAQ
1. Is there anything I should and shouldn’t do after Oral Surgery?
You should use a gauze pad to stop any bleeding. Rinse your mouth in warm salty water the day after your Oral Surgery to keep the area clean and get rid of any blood in your mouth. Try eating soft foods like soup, yoghurt and mashed potatoes in the day or two after your Oral Surgery. Reduce any swelling with an ice pack. Try to rest immediately after your Oral Surgery. Do not exercise for 24 hours after surgery and don’t lift anything heavy for a few days. Avoid hot food and hot drinks for the first few hours.
2. How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?
Whilst it is different for every patient, most people should be feeling completely back to normal within 7 to 10 days of having a tooth extracted.
3. How painful is it to have a tooth extracted?
You should not experience any pain during the actual extraction because the area will be numbed using a local anaesthetic. Once the anaesthetic begins to wear off, you may experience some soreness or some swelling. You can manage the pain using paracetamol and swilling your mouth in warm salty water.
